Dr Simon is the Senior Partner of Whitestone Surgery; an innovative practice based in North Warwickshire. Initially trained in orthopaedic surgery in Oxfordshire, he has previously worked as Medical Director for HOPE worldwide – Afghanistan. During his year, he oversaw an increase in budget from £100,000 PA to signing over $4.5 million in contracts. Mainly through competitive tenders from The World Bank, The European Commission, The Asian Development Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency and private donors. He was directly responsible for managing a $11 million medical programme which includes Karte Seh Medical Hospital, Karte Seh Maternity Hospital, Provincial Health Centre Construction, and the Provincial Midwife and Traditional Birth Attendant training programme. He oversaw the finance, architectural design, construction and subsequent joint management with UNICEF of the Karte Seh Maternity hospital in Kabul and five 12-room GP health centres (with 24 hour urgent care facilities) in Kandahar.
